Arcimboldos Water :: Visual Arts Paintings Art
Arcimboldo's Water The picture is of a head made up of many different sea features with a plain black background. It would be nearly impossible to name all the aquatic animals that make up this head. It seams as though there is a chest plate at the top of the body which is made of a crab and there are also shoulder plates which are made up by using a turtle and a large mussel, an octopus has also attached itself to the shoulder plates. Hanging around the neck there is a necklace made of pearls. The cheek is a ray of some sort, the ear is a mussel with a pearl as an earring. There is some sort of crab in place as the eyebrows and the mouth seams to be a dogfish with its jaws open revealing all its teeth. The figure seams to be wearing a crown which is made up of whales, seals, sea horses and coral. The nose is also made up by a fish. There is an array of different colours used but only the coral and a lobster seam to be bright and really stand out. Arcimboldo has arranged this piece so that when you look at the picture you are not struck by individual features but the picture as a whole and I found that happened with me. Arcimboldo has used oil on limestone to create this picture and it seams as though he has built the picture up from the background and added layers as he painted. The ideas used are obviously derived from the sea and sea creatures and are created together in a harmonious way and it shows a sign of peace with so many different creatures layed together in harmony. I think it was made to show that people can live together peacefully just as the animals are in the picture. It shows that fighting and arguing can be discarded and that everyone can get along no matter what or who they are: within the picture many of the animals would be each others enemy and prey. I like this picture because Arcimboldo has incorporated so many different species into the image but it is still very clearly a face and shoulders. Also the message of peace is clearly illustrated and is

Language-rich classroom
It is necessary to admit that acquisition of new words shouldnââ¬â¢t be only particular stage in child development. Developing language skills is very important stage in literacy development of every child. Children acquire new words through everyday interactions with parents, friends and school teachers. Recent researches suggest that ââ¬Å"number of words spoken to children in the first three years of life and the quality of the feedback they receive have a significant impact on their success in schoolâ⬠. (Lynn 1997) Many researchers and psychologists claim that children should be placed in language-rich environment to develop their skills better and faster. Language-rich environment at school is of great importance because children are provided with abundance of environmental print and text to practice reading, as well as they face written and oral language. Furthermore, children are allowed to ask for support of parents or caregivers. Such classrooms increase childrenââ¬â¢s awareness and help to develop alphabetic principles and enrich vocabulary. The role of a teacher in such classroom is integral as he/she supplies children with necessary textbooks and other materials. Distinguished feature of such classroom is that teachers donââ¬â¢t criticize their students; instead, they encourage them and involve in writing and reading activities. Conversation is an essential part of language-rich environment. The main characteristics of language-rich classroom are the following: 1. à teachers read books aloud every day because reading motivates conversation and, therefore, children develop new vocabulary, sentence structures, and they overcome fear to speak aloud; 2. à teachers encourage pretend talk and pretend play because opening ââ¬Å"the frame of reference into the world of pretend gives additional opportunity for new vocabulary and predicting skillsâ⬠; (What Are The Features 2006) 3. à teachers value childrenââ¬â¢ efforts and options meaning that teachers ask children to support their hypothesis or claim; it will help to develop though process and make children to defend their position and extend their thinking; 4. à children are treated as people with interesting and extraordinary experience meaning that children are encouraged during their mealtime or play time to discuss interesting moments with each other; (What Are The Features 2006) 5. à teachers introduce words ââ¬â they can be written of every object in a classroom. There are many instructional strategies how to support language-rich environment. For example, teachers should speak slowly at first and shouldnââ¬â¢t distort their language. Nevertheless, two strategies seem to be of top priority in every classroom. Firstly, teachers should label every object in classroom because it will help newcomers to understand the meanings of the objects at school. Secondly, teachers school from the very beginning of the studies to assign classroom duties among all students because it will help them to consider themselves part of the classroom. Duties will also develop the sense of duty and responsibility. It goes without saying that all strategies suggest that students should be praised for their work, eve if the task is very simply. (Literacy Development 2004) Finally, parents and caregivers should be also interested and encourage taking part in childrenââ¬â¢s development. Researchers say that children who communicate with parents every day develop language skills better than children who donââ¬â¢t. Therefore, parent should understand that their children are interesting personality and they want to develop speaking, reading, writing and listening skills. Parents should talk to their children, firstly, about childrenââ¬â¢s everyday experiences and activities, ask them to describe object, relations with other students. Parent should consider that children are fond of pretend play and should make up stories and poems with them. Drawing and scribbling are the best ways to encourage writing. The Existence of Absence in Keats On Seeing the Elgin...
In his sonnet On Seeing the Elgin Marbles for the First Time, John Keats presents a series of various forms of conflict and tension. Most prominent is the poets sense of his own fleeting existence juxtaposed with the eternity of the Greek marble sculptures and, perhaps, with the timelessness of art in general. However, there is another, more subtle tension between what is in existence, and what is not, an absence which paradoxically manifests as a form of existence in itself. The presence of this conflict within the sonnet shows Keatss self-coined Negative Capability, the ability to be in uncertainties, mysteries, doubts, without any irritable reaching after fact and reason (Keats 863). Furthermore, the Negative Capabilityâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The image plays heavily both on what was, the eagle soaring through the skies, and what remains, a gaping absence: an eagle-less sky and a lacking eagle. Hence, a fundamental element of the image is the existence of an absence. Two lin es later, the speaker describes the cloudy winds (7) which he does not have. The unusual description of the winds as ââ¬Å"cloudyâ⬠implies a fraught and stormy sky, and stimulates both visual and tactile senses; yet, these same cloudy winds are absent to the speaker. Thus, here too is an instance of the existence of absence; the vivid and sensuous imagery creates something substantial and tangible, and, as such, the negation of the images existence, becomes all the more palpable; its absence becomes distinct and almost like an entity in its own right. The oxymoron ââ¬Å"dim-conceived gloriesâ⬠(9) produces a similar tension. On a superficial level, the oxymoron is interesting in that it combines ââ¬Å"dim,â⬠connoting darkness, with ââ¬Å"glories,â⬠which often connotes radiance or light. Furthermore, there is a tension between the ââ¬Å"dimâ⬠and ââ¬Å"conceived,â⬠the latter implying creation and thus existence, while the first paradoxically su ggests something barely or non-existent. Implying the creation of that which does not exist embodies the tension between existence and the

This technique could let physicians to handle a upset by infixing a cistron into a patentââ¬â¢s cell. instead than making surgery. In some cases a mutant version of a cistron could be replaced with a normal allelomorph. which could perchance rectify a familial upset. Although. they may besides be inserted merely to handle a medical job. The procedure of cistron therapy starts with a cistron from a normal homo is isolated and cloned. the cistron is so inserted into a vector. and the virus so is injected into the patient. The virus is so assorted with cells from the patient. the cells from the patient go genetically altered. the altered cells are injected into the patient. and the genetically altered cells produce the coveted protein or endocrine. Gene therapy is assuring for legion diseases ( such as familial upsets. SCID. some types of malignant neoplastic diseases. and certain viral infections ) . although the technique can be hazardous because it is still under survey about how safe and effectual it can be. For illustration. SCID is a fatal familial disease caused by a faulty disease. because of the absence of this enzyme it consequences in the absence of the immune system. This requires the patient to stay stray and infections by bugs can do these patients to decease. whereas the normal immune system would easy contend them off. Gene therapy has treated 20 kids since 2000. for this intervention researches would sporadically take immune system cells from the SCID patientââ¬â¢s blood. and infect them with a virus which carried the normal allelomorph and so re-injected them into the patient. Although four of the patients developed leukaemia. one died. so this medical discovery was ephemeral. Gene therapy remains promising. but there is non adequate grounds yet to turn out that it is safe and effectual. The ethical concerns that exist are focused on the chance of making risky new disease-causing beings. and to turn to the concerns there have been new rigorous guidelines for scientists. that are formal authorities ordinance. The Rocking Horse Winner free essay sample
The Rocking Horse Winnerâ⬠by D. H. Lawrence was primarily about materialism, and illustrated how it can negatively impact more important aspects of life, such as love and family. The short story described a troubling relationship between a mother, who is incapable of love, and her son, who desired for his mother to love him. Lawrence created a perfect situation to showcase his theme, for the story is told very similar to a fairy tale. For example, ââ¬Å"Rocking Horse Winnerâ⬠begins with the omniscient narrator describing the mother, à who was beautiful, who started with all the advantages, yet she had no luck. The sentence assures the audience that the story is pure fiction; therefore, the reader is better able to cope with the multitude of the tragedies and evils that the story contains. Consequently, the reader can assess the story with relatively little emotional distress. The most distasteful aspect of the story is that the mother does not love her children, which in turn significantly contributed to her sonââ¬â¢s death. We will write a custom essay sample on The Rocking Horse Winner or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Paul is an ideal antihero, for his endeavor to win his motherââ¬â¢s love lead him to pay the ultimate sacrifice. Hester, Paulââ¬â¢s mother, was incapable of feeling love ââ¬Å"the center of her heart was a hard little place that could not feel love. â⬠However, she was not always this way. She married her husband because she was in love, but later discovered that he was unable to maintain the social status that she demanded, which ultimately lead her to resenting him. Social position was of the utmost importance to her. This was not because she logically concluded that it was essential to having a better life. Instead, her need for wealth contained her as if she was hooked on a drug, and it affected all other aspects of her life. Hester also could not love her children, for they bound her to her husband, and prevented her from achieving her ideal life style. Lawrence described Hesterââ¬â¢s position early in the story, ââ¬Å"She married for love, and the love turned to dust. She had bonny children, yet she felt they had been thrust upon her, and she could not love them. â⬠Hesterââ¬â¢s materialistic ideology was communicated throughout their home by a silent voice that whispered, ââ¬Å"there must be more money! â⬠The voice haunted the house, yet no one talked about it. ââ¬Å"The whisper was everywhere, and therefore no one spoke it. Just as no one ever says: ââ¬Å"We are breathing! â⬠Additionally, the voice plays another essential role in the story, for every time the whisper was heard, it reminded everyone that Hester was controlled by her desire for wealth, which caused her to be unable to love them. This was particularly evident with her son Paul. One day, while talking to his mother, Paul discovered the reason why his mother did not love him. He asked her why they did not have a car of their own, Hester responded bitterly ââ¬Å"Because we are the poor members of the family. Furthermore, she continued to explain that they were poor because they were unlucky. It was at this time Paul concluded that his parentââ¬â¢s bad luck was the reason his mother did not love him. He believed, in order to receive the affection from his mother that he desired, he must prove to her that he was lucky. For, if he was lucky, he could provide his mother with enough wealth that she no longer would have to stress on her social status, and would be able to love him. This marked the point where Paul began his tragic journey trying to prove to his mother that he was lucky. The narrator described Paul during the very beginning of his journey in finding luck, ââ¬Å"He wanted luck, he wanted it, he wanted it. â⬠Eventually, Paul became obsessed in his pursuit to find luck, which was actually an effort to become rich, which would allow his mother to love him. Lawrence describes a scene where he looks as if he were insane ââ¬Å"He would sit on his big rocking horse, charging madly into space, with a frenzy that made the little girls peer at him uneasily. â⬠However, Paul was far from insane, and in reality the opposite was true. When he was frantically riding his horse, he was the most focused and logical, for this was when he found luck. During his rides on his rocking horse he was engrossed in very deep and complicated thoughts. If he was successful during his ride he called it ââ¬Å"getting there. â⬠Later in the story, Lawrence revealed that ââ¬Å"getting thereâ⬠meant predicting the name of the horse that would win the next race. Following the win of Lively Star, Paul had accumulated immense wealth. He thought that it would be enough to silence the whisper that dominated him; however, it only made the problem worse. Later, when Paulââ¬â¢s uncle asked him what he was going to do with the money, Paul said, ââ¬Å"I started it for Mother. She said she had no luck, because father is unlucky, so I thought if I was lucky, it might stop the whispering. â⬠However, the money only fueled his motherââ¬â¢s materialistic nature, and the voices grew stronger, ââ¬Å"The voices in the house suddenly went mad, like a chorus of frogs on a spring evening. â⬠In a Newtonian Clockwork Universe, Paulââ¬â¢s efforts would have been enough to satisfy his mother, and ultimately win her love. Unfortunately, the story more closely relates to an Einsteinââ¬â¢s world view, which suggests that events are not predictable. Although it becomes apparent to the reader at the end of the story that Paul cannot win his motherââ¬â¢s love, he does not know this, and only tries harder when he is faced with obstacles. However, the harder Paul tried to ââ¬Å"get thereâ⬠the less often he was able to, which physically and mentally wore him down. ââ¬Å"The Grand National had gone by; he had not ââ¬Å"known,â⬠and had lost a hundred pounds. Summer was at hand. He was in agony for the Lincoln. The stress of several lost races, and that idea that he would not be able to earn enough money to satisfy his mother, drove Paul mad. ââ¬Å"He became wild eyed and strange, as if something were going to explode in him. â⬠Hester noticed how overwrought her son had become, and she was genuinely troubled by the idea of her son being ill. ââ¬Å"His mother had sudden strange seizures of uneasiness about him. Sometimes, for half an hour, she would feel a sudden anxiety about him that was almost anguish. She wanted to rush to him at once, and know he was safe. This marked a very decisive moment in the story, for Lawrence allows the mother to feel emotions towards her family. Furthermore, while the mother is opening up to her son, the reader begins to open up to Hester. Towards the end of the story, while Paul was sick, Lawrence changed the tone of the story. It transformed from having a fairy tale like feel, to being very cutting, emotional, and real. The reader started to view Paul and his mother as real people, rather than just characters in the story that he/she was reading. This ultimately made the reader much more vulnerable to being emotionally affected by the tragic ending. Lawrence described Paul frantically riding his rocking horse to a point of complete exhaustion ââ¬Å"Then suddenly she switched on the light, and saw her son, in his green pajamas, madly surging on the rocking horse. â⬠During his crazed ride, Paul ââ¬Å"got thereâ⬠, and concluded that Malabar would win the next race. After his ride he fell to the ground and entered a state of unconsciousness, where he viscously tossed and turned while reciting, ââ¬Å"Malabar! Itââ¬â¢s Malabar! Basset, Bassett, I know! Itââ¬â¢s Malabar! â⬠Paul worked very hard to try to earn his motherââ¬â¢s love, and for a brief period of time, it appeared he was successful. For example, Lawrence describes the motherââ¬â¢s reaction to her sonââ¬â¢s condition ââ¬Å"Then he fell with a crash to the ground, and she, all her tormented motherhood flooding upon her, rushed to gather him up. â⬠However, after a few days, it became evident that his mother was only having a moment of epiphany, and soon was back to the same cold hearted person she once was, ââ¬Å"His mother sat, feeling her heart had gone, turned actually into a stone. â⬠Paul, as the antagonist, takes on the role of an antihero. He strived to win his motherââ¬â¢s love, but he was unsuccessful. At the end of the story, when Paul realized that all of his efforts were pointless, he consequently could not handle the pain, and died. Right before Paul dies, he admits to his mother his efforts to prove to her that he was lucky ââ¬Å"I never told you, Mother, that if I can ride my horse, and ââ¬Å"get there,â⬠then Iââ¬â¢m absolutely sure-oh, absolutely! Mother did I ever tell you I was lucky! â⬠This line reveals the importance, to Paul, of the conversation he and his mother had several years ago. During that conversation, he discovered that she was unable to love him because she did not have enough money and luck. That moment defined the rest of Paulââ¬â¢s life, for at that time Paul told his mother that he was lucky, and he spent the rest of his life trying to prove it to her. While on his death bed, Hester responded to Paulââ¬â¢s confession ââ¬Å"No, you never didâ⬠The thought that he based his whole life off of their conversation, and she did not even remember it, is what killed Paul. Much like his rocking horse, no matter how hard Paul tried, or no matter how hard the rocking horse ran, neither Paul nor his horse gained any ground in their pursuit.
